In the play, Tom is strapped to a table for an operation, and he can’t escape. I designed the door like this for a few reasons.
- I wanted it to be large enough for my actor to fit onto it comfortably.
- My actors have to be the one to carry it onto the stage.
- It has to be about the same size as a door, so it is 6′ high by 3′ wide.
- The chains are easily hooked on with carabeaners, and allow the actress more time to focus on projecting.
- The door would have to be cost efficient, I am after all a college student.
The door is going to be painted with a watered down black paint to age and dirty it some, and splattered with red paint for blood.
